about

(See also track 5)

Each part of the Ostrobothnian crown wedding was accompanied by a particular tune. This one, from southern Pohjanmaa, is associated with the bride-to-be leaving her parents’ house for the last time as an unmarried girl.

'Itku polska' was noted in the 1860s by P. Salonius in Parkano, southern Pohjanmaa, and published in the “Vanhoja Pelimanni-Sävelmiä” (Ancient folk musicians’ tunes) volume of Ilmari Krohn's “Suomen Kansan Sävelmiä”.
